  1. the lightning heats the air and it expands really suddenly.

It is not the expansion that makes the noise as much as the contraction.  Lightning super heats the air up to 60,000 degrees F (33,000 C) so it expands very rapidly leaving a void in the air.  The air rushes back into the void and creates a shock wave implosion that is the sound of the thunder.

  3. Due to the speed of the electric discharge the surrounding air can't move out of the road as quick. Result, lots of quick movement and a big bang..

  4. The electrical discharge that makes up lightning heats the air to a high temperature. This high temperature air expands rapidly. When cooler air rushes in to fill the void left by the radidly expanding, superheated air it crashes together with great energy, some of which is converted to the sound we hear as thunder.
