What makes unions bad? in what ways do they hurt businesses?

with the way the economy is and businesses struggling to make the pay checks, unions make it that much harder. I use to live in NY where guys are paid when there is no work to be done. The union workers sit on a bench collecting money from companies. Not only that but when these union workers do get jobs the process of getting things done is so slow and strains most jobs.

In Florida there is no Union and our workers get the job done and fast. NY high state tax, high sales tax and Unions, is not helping their economy..

However Florida has no state tax, no unions and low sales tax and the state is booming-

Unions ruin business and in this day and age we do not need them.

I don't believe unions are bad.  The oppositional nature of unions and management ensures that workers are treated with dignity and respect.  In addition, as workers get a larger share of the profits from companies they have the money to go out and spend, buying the products the company makes.  In many facilities today management and unions work in harmony to bring about the best result for all, company and labor.

The 'hurt' business in the way that they try to protect workers against businesses that want to treat their staff like c**p.

Way back in the dark days of McCarthyism, some americans thought that anybody who believed in unions was a "red"!! :D

Union's becomes bad if they won't take into consideration the financial capacity of the company.  Assuming on labor wage issues, there are already pre-set CBAs; in implementing those CBA's, other unions don't mind even if the business is falling down.  What they're after is just the interest or the welfare of the employees/members.  In this case, the employee-employer relationship might get affected.  It will therefore have a chain effect on the business itself.
