What makes up, or goes into the time period of a story.

if you are talking about what i think you are, it would be not only what year, but what time of year. fall, summer, winter, spring? Day, month, what the surroundings look like even. If the leaves are changing colors or not. start small, the minute of this hour of this day of this month....etc. keep building up, that is what makes the time or period in which a story falls.
