You don't think that when a person runs for office, he takes into account that all people are different, that all are not going to agree with him personally and that the best thing he can do is help create and execute laws that are hopefully beneficial to the majority of citizens?

Why are people so bloomin obesessed with a candidate's church?

  1. I would rather vote for a presidential candidate that lives by what he believes in than one who says he believes one way and then acts in the opposite way.

The candidates character is the real issue.

  2. Excuse me but didn't Bush say that god told him to invade Iraq?

    That is concerning.

  3. Well, because the personal religious beliefs of the CURRENT administration's leader has affected me. It is common for people in charge to try to impose their will.

  4. the only one who needs proof of it is god- what they say may or may not be true - satan is a lier where ever he is

  5. If someone has a religion, they may unquestionably follow the moral guidance of their God e.g. if God says this wrong, then it IS wrong.

I don't want a politician making decisions on the society that I live in if they are blindly following the values of a God that I don't believe in.

I feel politicians should make decisions/form opinions based solely on relevant and recent facts and evidence rather than scriptures written thousands of years ago.

  6. We live in a nation whose citizens are predominantly Christian or, at least, people of faith.  When politicians run for office, they feel that, in order to make themselves more palatable to the voters, they need to make a show of how religious they are.  Let's face it, the chances of an atheist getting elected to national office in America are less than those of Osama Bin Laden (he claims to be a religious person).

I've come to accept that there will always be photo opportunities of politicians coming out of a church.

Now, how sincere they are is another question.

  7. politicians personal religious beliefs are goining to affect YOU, sooner or later, because his ideas will usually be guided by his religional beliefs. even though religion & politics should be kept seperated. sadly most politicians use, religion power to get votes. example : Turkey.. it is the most modern Islamic country in the world, yet its struggling because of an "religious" government control. Turkeys still a developing country, and its leteracy level is quite low. Politicians use this as an oppurtunity. they use the peoples religious beliefs to get more power, sadly. this is the worst case scenario. however, a religious person will usually act by his own religious beliefs.. in the end they all do, as long as they are "religious" they want to share their "beautiful beliefs" .. haha.. i am turkish, and i feel bad when our people are tricked with religion. sadly it is hard to beat..its a very fragile subject . .  =(  i think Europe acted really smart, by preventing this disaster early.. u know what i mean =P why do you think they did that? because in the end it affects politics. catch my drift ? =Pp

  8. There is a saying: Politics is the last refuge of the devil.I dont think the politician's personal religious beliefs would affect anyone else apart from his psycophants.

  9. Exactly. The President of the U.S. needs to be concerned with our economy and job situation, as well as our relationship with other countries. If he or she is able to do that, I don't care what their religion is (within reason).

  10. Because politicians make laws. And Christians and Muslims aren't content with simply believing what they choose to and allowing others to do the same in peace and respect. Their religion demands that they go to great lengths to compel others to live the lifestyle and accept the doctrines of the religion. So when you have someone who believes in that in a position to make laws, then you have a de facto theocracy, which should be completely unacceptable in a free society.

  11. I hate being governed by a person who thinks

    God will fix everything

    and that his/her becoming president

    is somehow Gods will

    so therefore whatever they

do is also with Gods approval

  12. Because religion and politics go hand in hand. Many people are afraid of what might happen if a politician of opposing religious views was elected to represent them.

  13. Well, the majority of people in the US are Christian and so want a Christian President.

Not to make laws according to Christianity but to make laws and enforce laws that, as you say, benefit all people just as true Christianity states.

Governing is not a fairness doctrine, but what is good for all.

Any true Christian that governs should be more for removing laws that restrict people then making laws that restrict people.

  14. Not everyone is "so concerned" with a politician's religious beliefs.

  15. Some politicians can't seem to keep their personal religious beliefs out of public policy.  Those that seem to think the ideas in their own heads came from God and are therefore not subject to any discussion are downright scary.

  16. Bush said he went to war because God personally told him to.

Do you think he took your opinion and my opinion into consideration?

His religion is against stem cell research. Do you think he took your opinion and my opinion into consideration?

Otherwise, why don't you vote for an atheist president? Don't you think he will take your religious opinions into consideration?

  17. because a lot of politicians DO let their religion interfere with the government.
