by my maths ireland have -3 pts difference

argentina have+95

so if ireland win by exactly 50 pts they would move up to + 47

argentina would be reduced down to +45

if they won by 49pts both would have +46

  1. You have the points difference sorted out but Ireland have to score the 4 tries for their bonus point AND stop Argentina scoring a bonus from 4 tries or a close loss.

    ***edit***

    If at the completion of the pool phase two or more Teams are level on Match points, then the following criteria shall be used in the following order until one of the Teams can be determined as the higher ranked:

    i. The winner of the Match in which the two tied Teams have played each other shall be the higher ranked;

    ii. The Team which has the best difference between points scored for and points scored against in all its pool Matches shall be the higher ranked;

    iii. The Team which has the best difference between tries scored for and tries scored against in all its pool Matches shall be the higher ranked;

    iv. The Team which has scored most points in all its pool Matches shall be the higher ranked;

    v. The Team which has scored most tries in all its pool Matches shall be the higher ranked;

    vi. Should the tie be unresolved at the conclusion of steps (i) through (v), the Team that is higher ranked in the updated Official IRB World Rankings on October 1, 2007.

    Bottom line, Ireland need to win, score 4 tries, stop Argentina scoring 4 tries and beat them by at least 8 points.... do all that and HELLO ALL BLACKS!

  2. They dont need a margin, they need the other team not to show up the way they've been playing.

  3. they need to score four trys to get the bonus point and they need to beat the argies by 7 points.

  4. no the deal is as above. ireland have to score four tries to get bonus point and stop the argies getting one. but heres the deal. ireland will have beaten argentina therefore they go through. if all teams are equal the team that won that particular match between the two goes through.

    though unfortunately thats seems impossible.....though it has been ststed that munster had the exact same dillema a cuple of years ago against gloucester i think, and they came through.

    highly unlikely though.
