Question:

What martial art is good for me?

I'm looking for a martial art to learn. I have heart problems, so I don't want anything too intensive and gruelling. I don't want anything too soft and non-intensive either, though. Just something in-between that I can learn without hurting my heart or critically injuring myself.

  1. I think there's

    Kung Fu

    Karate

    Tae Kwon Do

    Judo

    Jujitsu (Jujutsu?? spelling)

I don't know anything about them, but I think is available, there might be more

  2. Heart disease is the number one killer in the United States, and is caused primarily from bad cholesterol from meat and dairy, and is due in large part to obnoxious farming practices.  A vegan diet (without dairy) is about the best thing you could do for yourself.  You can't get bad cholesterol from a vegan diet.  A martial art for True Self Defense would be one that improves your health as well as fitness.  Ask your doctor for a signed release before getting involved in a martial art or any physical exertion.  Think of pain as a warning that something is not alright, but sometimes there is no warning, so ask your doctor first and then pay attention, to your body, but slowly push yourself if you can.  I would advise you train from someone that is concerned with teaching his students self defense rather than MMA due to your heart condition.  Cardiovascular adaptations are beneficial to improving health in most people, however, your heart condition may or may not impede your success in striking arts such as Muay Thai or Kung Fu, unless the instructor taylors a program specifically for you.  Joint manipulation that uses leverage is good, but groundwork is very demanding.  MMA, BJJ, and Muay Thai are very impressive, but they are not the best for self defense for everyone.  Small Circle Jujitsu, and Kung Fu San Soo and Cabales Serrada Escrima are effective and realistic for the street.  Self Defense is not really a contest or a sport.  It is about the mind, body and spirit development to avoid violence, and yet able to defend oneself and protect others if need be.  You train to be the best YOU can be.

  3. All martial arts are pretty high impact and intensive. I would not suggest martial arts.

  4. Most of these answerers dont even know a good martial art. (Judo?! Seriously he wants a GOOD Martial Art full of lethal techniques) I recommend Jujutsu, as it is about every Martial Art Combined. Also it is more realistic for fighting situations.

  5. You should talk to your doctor about this first before taking up any activity that could raise your heart rate.

  6. I think tai chi is good because i heard it not as intense as most martial arts, or maybe yoga.

  7. Aikido with your doctors permission

  8. try judo

  9. Aikido

As for not knowing Martial Arts . . . I am prior military and a MMA. After learning Combat Aikido with a very respectable military unit, I would recommend Aikido for anyone looking for a style that is both excellent for self-defense and easy on the heart. The guy below me . . . Jujutsu is good, I've studied it. But for a bad heart, NO! It's too exhausting.
