  1. Check out kenpo schools. It's kind of a mixed bag. Karate, but also is drawn from various styles. Kicks, punches, various strikes. Weapons ,too. tip: Best weapon to start with are sticks (eschrema)...because they will complement your training (stance, 2 handed karate, and the stick strikes can be done open hand as shutos, etc).

Only thing is alot of kenpo schools frown on ground technique; their stand is that you should never get to the ground :) I don't totally buy that. I hate ground (I think alot of girls do) but I learn it because I must. My school is pretty progressive on that. It's not part of the curriculum  but we've brought in masters in hapkido, and experts in wrestling.

Investigate all of your options as you're doing. Go down and talk to many schools. And then try them for a month if you can or at least for a week; that's pretty standard. HOpe it helps.

  2. take karate, we use all of our body, and quite a few wepons, and we learn how to reverse from one to the other

  3. If you want to use you entire body AND weapons the I would suggest Eskrima/Kali as someone else suggested because you will use knifes and sticks as well as the use of hand and foot.

Here is a link if you want to look at the style. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eskrima

  4. i've been taking judo about 2-3 classes a week for about 8months now, i've really enjoy it. it amazing how better of a grappler and thrower i am.

  5. Well a lot of arts are good for this matter.

    Some notable ones are:

    Eskrima and Krav maga

  6. Jiu-jitsu I'd suggest :)***

  7. Jujitsu or Judo.

  8. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

    Great discipline and confindence builder
