  1. No, from what I understand, they all originated in China and were brought to Okinawa, then to mainland Japan.

  2. Japanese martial arts can be categorized generally in to 5 different arts of fighting. They are Karate, Aikido, Juijutsu, Judo, and Kendo.

There are of course many more, and various sub-styles within each, but it's a very long list.

Take a look at this article:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_ma...

  3. Too many to mention but,

    Jiu-jitsu

    various styles of Karate

    Judo

    Aikido

Can't think of any others off hand perhaps weapons styles  like Kendo Ilido etc :)***

  4. Hello whadyamacallit !

Its a good question , however its too long to list here.  Japanese martial arts falls into two categories. Koryo ( litteraly "old style"  ) and Gendai Budo ( Modern Martial Way).

Even Wikipedia has yet to compile a complete list.  Here's their link to give a head start:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mar...

For those are are serious about in-depth research, you can purchase a book  titled "Bugei Ryuha Daijiten" written by Watatani Kiyoshi and Yamada Tadashi.  This book is the most comprehensive listing of Japanese Martial arts.

    Hope this helps !
