  1. Truly for self-defense and defense of home and family - learn how to use a good firearm.

If you want something to fill in the gaps away from home when you can't carry a gun, look for an art that matches you.  Your body type, fitness, age, strength, and size all factor into which art will best serve you.  MMA, BJJ is great ground and pound stuff, unless you are 5' and 100# with an attacker that is 6' and 250.

Personally, I train in Japanese aiki-jujutsu.  It is not predicated on size and strength, but rather on technique and skill.   the point being to fight smarter not harder.  Is serves me well against larger, stronger attackers and in situations where I may not want to go to the ground.

  2. boxing mixed with juijitsu. GROUND AND POUND!!!!!!

  3. For short term, go for Muay Thai. Simple system with low skills level, and can be effective in 2 years of regular training of 3-4 hours per day.

For medium term, go for Wing Chun. High skills level system, very effective after 4 years of regular training of 3-4 hours per day.

For longer term, go for southern praying mantis. Extremely high skill level with iron jacket as well. Very effective after 6 years of regular training of 3-4 hours per day.

Having said that, it is more important to go for the best master/fighter/instructor available to you than to go for the style.

  4. carry a hand grenade.

  5. muay thai kickboxing and bjj
