  1. I do a form of tae kwon do (karate) with a master who is qualified in other forms of martial arts.  He has his upper belt (green belt and higher) training with weapons such as bo staff, escrima sticks, nunchaku, tonfa, kamas, sais, bokken, and shinai. He will not permit training in samurai sword unless a person has achieved "black belt"  (shodan level).  My master uses different forms of training including karate, juijitsu, a certain amount of kendo, aikido, and muy tai.

I have a college professor who has trained in aikido, and she has had training using wooden swords.

I do tai chi (taiji, if you prefer).  It is great for internal training and uses flexibility.  Some people find that studying it along with a "hard style" like karate helps them with the hard style.  Many younger students start studying tai chi but drop out because they find it too boring.

The important thing is to research the schools that teach in your area. Visit them, talk to the masters, find out their training policies, as well as how much it costs to joint the school and train, if they require an iron-clad contract to link you in, etc.  Also find out if they will let you train with them for a few weeks as an introductory student without you having to make a decision to join.

Selecting a good martial arts school is a difficult decision. Put a lot of study into making your choice.  It will require more effort than deciding what kind of new car to buy.  Choose wisely.

  2. when i was in ottawa (sorry i dont remember exactly where) i stopped by a tiger style kung fu school. i liked it and i think it would be valuable to learn,

i wish i could have taken more then one class while i was in ontario

    hope this helps

  3. Northern Shaolin

    Southern Shaolin

Tai Chi Chuan (very good for balance)

  4. You might try contacting Shidoshi Mike Pimblett and see if he's still teaching: Ottawa_bujinkan@yahoo.ca

If he's not, I think a few of his students are, but I don't have contact info for them, but he might be able to help you.

    Also http://www.takaradojo.com/

These are all Bujinkan ("ninjutsu") dojos. Please take the time to talk to them about what it's really like and get a feel for how they train. We have a lot of great people, and then some just get too caught up in the ninja part. There's far more to the art than most people seem willing to understand.

  5. kung fu

    tai chi

    eskrima

    kali

    asnet

these all teach weponry the first 2 are probably best for balance and flexability though

  6. Tae Kwon Do is great. the guy above me listed a lot of good stuff about it. my teacher also mixes in other martial arts with it (green belt & up) but the 1st three belts teacher teaches us is traditional. You can learn to use a lot of different weapons. The one I use is the escrima.

Tae Kwon Do  uses  flexibility & balance..

i think i heard tae kwon do is the most aggressive form of martial arts but its just fine with me ^^ its cool in every way so i dont feel the need to elaborate

(i dont have great balance so its so hard on me with spinning kicks *tears* but im working on it)

Tae Kwon Do means Way of Fist&Foot

  7. If you want to kick *** and be cool - Karate

If you just want to kick *** 1 on 1 - MMX

If you want to practice for 100 years - Tai Chi

If you want to be a ninja - Ninjutsu :D

  8. you should look in your town to see what is offer 1st. you can do this by looking in a phone book then research the ones available to you. now that being said all martial arts deal in flexibility and balance. plus most teach some kind of weapon. its the only way to become a complete fighter in my opinion.

no one can tell you whats a good martial arts for you to take. only suggest, and i wont do that because whats good for me may not be for you.

                                          good luck

                                      tang soo do

  9. Japanese Jiu-jitsu I'd suggest..

    Best wishes :)***
