I am currently designing a board game and I need to figure out what kind of materials most board games are made out of. I think it's cardboard, but I'm not completely sure.

  1. they are made of metal

  2. The base material for game boards is called chipboard.  It is the same type of stuff used for backing notepads, only a bit thicker.  You can usually buy it in sheet form at craft supply stores.  The material used for matting photographs or other artwork is also a fine substitute.  Use fabric tape to make any hinges in a folding board and to cover the edges of the board.

For the playing surface, you may want to consider some sort of matte laminate material (such as a transparent contact paper) to protect the board.  Use a roller to slowly apply the adhesive paper from one side to the other and work out any bubbles before they have a chance to form.

  3. Depending who you are making it for. For yourself cardboard might be perfectly acceptable.

  4. Card board is the norm, but I want you to be different and try all plastic, I think the game pieces will move smoother.

  5. card boardd

  6. its practicaly the same material as cardboard.... I would call it thick tagboard? If you are trying to make it from scratch you could go to a craft store and ask them for tagboard and I am almost sure they would know what you are talking about. Actually you could probably just say the stuff that makes the board of a board game and they could point you in the right direction.

  7. Usually it's a really thick, specifically designed cardboard.

  8. Try ply board?

Or you can Recycle, if you have any unused or old and incomplete board game sets, then you can just strip that game board of its stickers or cover it with your chosen material. If you have none, I'm sure there are lots in your neighborhood.

Which I think is much better than buying, it's thrift and ECO-Friendly!
