This dress from Max Azria was worn by Angelina Jolie at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival. If you scroll down you'll several pics of this green Grecian style dress. What material does this look like to you? Do you know of any patterns that are similar to the dress worn?

  1. Yes, this looks like silk, but I bet you could recreate this look with a polyester.  It would drape as nicely.  It would cost less and not be such a pain to iron, either.

  2. I'd bet my right eye that it's silk. The green dress you've linked isn't Max Azaria, it's Thomas Wylde, I think. He's made other dresses for her for this promotional tour, and the others were described as being silk. This green one for some reason isn't being mentioned by fabric in photo captions and other writeups. The style would be very classic, and although several different draped dresses might be called Grecian style, this one definitely could be. Here's a link to a Grecian style ready-made dress by Michael Kors, to give you an idea. Some G-style are one-shoulder designs. Classic, simple & draped are hallmarks of Grecian style.

I looked, but I'm unable to find a pattern. You should not have a problem at a fabric store, though. I did see lots of info saying this kind of dress is very fashionable this season.

  3. It looks like silk. You could use georgette or peau de soie or even a thin brushed satin.

Here's a pattern, you can just cut the front band to the right shape instead of leaving it as a rectangle. Allow extra material at the top of the skirt to fill in the gap.
