Question:

What material would be good for making a wall collage?

I am making a giant collage of magazine clippings, photos, etc. to cover the whole wall area above my bed. I do not want to glue or tape directly onto the wall (to avoid peeling the paint off), so I need a base material such as cork to lay down first. This material must be able to hold glue, seeing as I will be putting the collage together by gluing. Would cork work for this? Any suggestions?

  1. Yes, and you can actually buy Cork tiles with a sticky background that you could use, or just leave the backing on to not use it. They sell these at Staples, Office Depot or other office supply stores. I have found them at Ikea as well.

  2. A big peice of foamcore would work, its really lightweight and easy to glue on.

  3. Cork will work, but there is one problem.  It has a texture which will affect thin bodied papers like magazine stock so you will see the texture through the image.  You might want to try a smooth finish matte board which you can get at the craft store in a variety of colors and sizes.
