  1. Paper plates, plastic spoons, napkins and maybe bibs.

  2. butter knives, cooking utensils, measuring cups, bowl..make sure nothing is pointy

  3. Keebler makes these great little mini graham cracker pie crusts that come in packages of six. Just right for one package of instant pudding. Pistachio is my favorite, because it tastes good, and most kids the age you're talking about seem to like things kind of odd colored. Green pudding is something novel for most of them. Just help them measure the milk correctly, and let them go to town mixing the stuff. The four year olds can do this pretty much on their own with a wire whisk and a plastic or stainless steel mixing bowl thats oversized enough to allow for their sometimes vigorous whisking technique. Then, depending on how messy you want to let them get, after they fill the pie crusts with either large tablespoons or small ladles (and yes, I've babysat two year olds that are very good with that part) you can let them top it off with canned whipped cream. Not as fun, but considerably less messy is Cool Whip. Colored sprinkles or finely chopped pistachios can be put on top as well, but in my experience, these always make more mess than anything else because they scatter easily. Plops of pudding and glops of whipped cream stick nicely to a drop cloth or one of those plastic lined paper party tablecloths (both of which I get at the dollar store). Kids can then gobble them up with plastic spoons, and you don't need any other bowls or plates because the crusts are in their own little tins.

The kids I sit always love these because they get to do it all themselves. I love it because it leaves me with only a bowl, whisk, ladle, and measuring cup to wash, and a one dollar tablecloth to roll up and pitch in the trash.
