What maths do i need to become a mechanical engineer?

I'm thinking of doing an apprenticeship in mechanical engineering i was just wondering what type of maths i should expect to come across during the course. For example will i need to know trigonometry, area/volumes, standard form etc.

  1. What I have to do to get my degree in mechanical engineering...

    Pre-Calculus (Volume, Advanced Trig, Exponential Forms, ect.)

    Basic Calculus

    Multi Variable Calculus

    Basic Differential Equations

    2D Heat equation (advanced differentials)

    3D Heat Equation (advanced differentals)


  2. Calculus 1,2 and 3.

    Ordinary partial differential equations.

    Those are the only "required ones" however I would strongly suggest you also take:

    Partial Differential Equations

    Complex Variables.

    Advanced discrete mathematics

    Linear Algebra

    and perhaps some elective like "advanced mathematics of wave theory" or Quantum Mechanics.

    And pick up some good book like Greenbergs: " Green's functions for scientists and Engineers".

    Then if you go to grad school, you'll be ahead of most of your counterparts.
