What may have caused?

This morning both of my parakeets died! :( what may have caused this? They had been perfectly normal latley. Amirillo was exactly 2 yrs old and I am not sure about Friend we've had him about 5 months. (My 3yr old is going to be so sad when she gets home!) But what causes sudden death?

Its never nice when our pets die. There could have been a few reaons that they suddenly died. To me, it sounds like what ever affected them was contageous. Here are some causes :

1. Too much iron in their diet

2. Oily food

3. Seasoning

4. Sour Crop

5. Teflon

6. Apple seeds

8. Avocado

9. Banana

Those are all very common causes of birds dying. Other than that i dont know what could have killed your birds. But i suggest getting new ones for your daughter. After all, she is 3 years old, and she will cry for the birdies unless you get new ones!

Do you use teflon cookware? When the bottoms scorch the teflon releases a toxin that can kill birds, they always recommend not having birds in the kitchen because of that.

Any chemical use that would give fumes is a source of potential too--bleach, residue drain cleaner reacting to anything else poured down the drain that has a chemical base, heavy cigar smoke, etc.

You'd also need to look at mildewed seeds, or any greens you might have given them that would contain a pesticide (chickweed picked from outside where a neighbor may havve sprayed a lawn treatment that drifted with the wind into your yard would kill a canary within 15 minutes).  Vegetables from the grocery store that weren't washed?  They come to the store covered in pesticides and sometimes fumigation spray if they're imports.
