I live in San Francisco where there are about a billion different restaurants and types of food. My friend from London is coming to visit me for Thanksgiving and I'm going to be showing her around. She's never been to the West Coast before, and I'd love to introduce her to some new and different tastes, but I don't really know what kinds of cuisines are rare to London or that they just don't have like they have in SF. I'm taking her out for some authentic Mexican food in the Mission and to the Cheesecake factory, but is there anything else?

  1. Mexican is definitely the top choice... they also love their steak and stuff... but there's nothing that they're "unfamiliar" with as such....

unless you have something called "native american" cuisine.. or even african.. thats not very common here

  2. most definitely mexican food! and also really good, fresh, reasonably priced sushi. i moved to london from nyc a year ago and i miss mexican food the most because it's nowhere to be found really. good fresh, reasonably priced sushi is nowhere to be found either. my sister lives in sf and i always get mexican and sushi when i'm there!!! hungry now.

  3. Look I think you will be lucky whatever you chose because UK food is very bland and unimaginetive and because of their zenophobic attitudes they don't often try any different even when its available to them.

Most Brits eat, Fish and chip, Fast foods, 3 veg and meat (not much they can't afford it).   There you go thats an idea how about a huge steak.

Believe me I know, I'm a POM.   Even the chinese food in UK is **** believe me.

  4. When I visit San Francisco, I like to  go to India House because the Service is impeccable.

The waiters are dressed in Indian attire and the Ambiance is first class.

  5. I'm from the UK and travel to San Francisco regularly on business - I like to get mexican food when I am there as really good mexican food is very hard to get here (but getting less so). Also there are some really good vegetarian restaurants in the Bay area.

And ignore Margo - British cuisine is absolutely top class these days (if you eat in the right places!)

  6. I am from San Fran, but now live in London. My reccomendation would be out for some really fresh seafood near Fisherman's Warf. Also, the steaks in the US are much better, so maybe a nice steak house as well.
