  1. It's not a good idea to use a dehumidifier where I live. I live in a dry climate which often has single digit humidity levels. The lowest humidity level I've ever seen here has been 1%. As a result, swamp coolers are a cheaper and more practical alternative to air conditioners. They add humidity to the air and they cost less to operate.

  2. If the air contains water vapour then that property of the air is called humidity. In other words,if air contains water vapour, then the air is said to be humid otherwise it is called dry air.

Humidifier is an instument which adds water vapour to air and the Dehumidifier is an another instrument which does the opposite thing, that is, it removes the water vapour from the air.

  3. humidity is adjective or the quality

    humidifier make the humidity

and dehumidifier is one which removes humidity (as is kept in electronic and other gadgets)

  4. Humidity is the amount of moisture in the air. Humidifier adds more moisture (you add water to the machine and it is picked up and blown out through via a fan) This you need in the desert.

Dehumidifier takes moisture out of the air (you actually collect enough water that you have to empty the machine) This you use in the Gulf Coast or similar areas.

Moist air is great in the winter and miserable in the summer.

  5. Humidity is the amount of water in the water.   Humidifiers are a machine which adds moisture to the air in your house let's say and a dehumidifier takes it out.   You use them because it is too dry or too moist.
