  1. sample sentence....I would of gone to the concert but it was raining, so I stayed home.  In other words....the "would" means had circumstances been different, you might of found yourself at the concert vs. staying at home.

another sample sentence with "would" used a bit differently....

I would like to have the lobster with a side of wild rice.

The "would" means action...it means you have a desire to have the lobster and wild rice.

another sample sentence..."Would you prefer to go out tonight ot stay in?"....

action word being used as a question to another person requiring them to give a response wtih either a yes or no.

  2. what does "would" mean, and where do you use it?

its when someone might have done something differently under different circumstances.

ur just going to have to get an english teacher

  3. I would like to go out, would you come with me

I would like one of those, would you like one too

  4. Some examples:

"Would you like a drink of water?" - a polite way of asking if you want something.

"I would have chosen the pink one" - it's like imaginary past-tense, for something that might have happened or could have happened, but didn't.

It's hard to explain - I can see why it's difficult to learn!

  5. "will" is an auxiliary verb, which means that it helps define a verb (example:  I will help you).

"would" is is the past tense of will, and is, of course, also an auxiliary verb.  An example:  I would go with her everywhere.

  6. would (Simple past of will.)

Indicating an action or state that is conditional on another.

"We would be warmer if you hadn't opened the window! "

"Bill said he would go if it didn't rain."

Indicating a possible (but not definite) future action or state.

:We sat on the bench, wondering if the bus would be late this time."

Indicating an action in the past that was planned or intended.

"The waiter said he would be right back. "

Indicating an action in the past that happened repeatedly or commonly.

"In the winters, we would sit by the hole on the frozen lake and fish for hours. "

Used to express a polite request.

"Would you please turn off the TV? "

Used to indicate a wish or desire (usually contrary to facts).

    "Would that it were true."

    Hope this helps.
