  1. It's an Spanish word that derives from the Argentinian card game "Truco", that's played with 3 cards for player and can be played by 2, 3 (2 against 1), 4 (2 against 2), or 6 players (3 against 3).

They are two basic stages in the game:

    1) "Envido" in the first round, when the person with more points (sum of figures of the same color) wins.

    2) "Truco" that can be played in any of the 3 rounds, when players bid that they have the highest card. When a person bids they say "truco", the person can accept or not, and even raise the bid saying "retruco".

"Retrucar" in the game means to bid back, to raise the bid.

In colloquial talk people use "retrucar" with the sense of giving a strong reply or talking back in cases when the speakers are proving to do more than the other (like biding and raising).

E.g.: "Susana le dijó que lo amaba y Juan le retrucó que él la amaba más" (Susana told him that she loved him and Juan replied that he loved her more).
