  1. It is when you send money, weapons etc. to another group so that they fight a war for you. Like what the Soviets did in Vietnam.

  2. Putting fighters in another country than your own to fight against your enemy country.

    Examples:

Hezbollah fighting Israel for = Iran

South Ossetia fighting Georgia for = Russia

"Palestinians" fighting Israel for = the entire Arab/Persian world

Iran and Russia both created and funded these actions.

  3. Important example:

Soviet Afghanistan. Taliban movement ( and future Al-Qaeda leader) were funded by US to fight soviets. Fate definitely has sense of humor.

  4. it means you fight a war without actually involving yourself in it. the ussr and america did that for approx . 25 years. america was placing spies in russia and russia tried to place weapons in cuba. both countries spy with satelites on each other. this was does not involve real fighting ..

  5. Waging a war through a third party.

You send money and equipment to another group and have them wage the war against an opponent.

The US and USSR were prone to this during the Cold War.  They would fund "Revolutionaries" to bring down governments who were allied with the other side.
