What means "optimize a website" or "optimize the keywords"

I don't understand, If I'm going to optimize my website (or If I'm going to optimize the keywoeds of my website) what should I do?

It means alter the keywords of the home page and other pages to fool search engines to rank the site higher than it really should be. Ie it means to cheat. Search engines are getting better at spotting the cheats though.

To optimize your website you are just going to take your current website and use certain words in certain places a certain amount of times to tell the indexes like Google, Yahoo, etc what your site is about so that you can get index properly in the indexes....

Basically if your website is about dogs for example then you would use words in your site that relate to dogs like kennel, dog food, dog brushes, etc..you get the drift....using words to many times will get your penalized and report your site as a Spam site which mean your site doesn't get ranked in the search engines....

It means to choose the words and layout of those words in order to place the site prominently on search engine results for the target audience. For example, if you want to make a website to sell toasters, the word toaster should appear quite frequently (but not too much) and should be in the title and headers of the page. It's not really cheating, as if a page really does the intended service, the greater chance it has for being in the top of search results.
