  1. The previous poster is correct.  In fact, in order to specialize in cardiology, you must first complete a three-year residency in Internal Medicine and then apply for a fellowship in Cardiology.

The programs currently offering allopathic Cardiology residencies through ERAS can be found here:  https://services.aamc.org/eras/erasstats...

  2. Unlike college, where you choose a specialty and just have to go through all the classes, the curriculum of most medical schools (allopathic, not osteopathic) is largely set by a single governing body and is pretty much the same from school to school..

You choose a specialty and take classes geared towards that specialty your 4th year. You graduate with a medical doctor degree, but with no specialty. You have to apply to residencies for your desired specialty and get in. Then you have to take your certification boards in that specialty.

You probably mean what schools will get me the best shot of getting into a cardiology residency. In that case, you have to decide if you want to do primary care or research. Then you can look up which schools are at the top in terms of USMLE scores and % first choice residencies in the 'Top Medical Schools' edition of Newsweek that comes out every year.
