  1. Well, if you say you're taking that specific drug that seems to contain Famotidine (I go by generic names, not brand names), you don't have heart burn at all because your heart isn't sick.

It's highly likely you have a gastroesophageal reflux disease. The medication treats the symptoms, but in some cases (like if you have a hiatal hernia), you will probably not cure from that.

My best friend had a very severe form of GERD which got to the point of Barret esophagus. Don't want to scare you, but he was close to getting esophagus cancer. I suggested him to visit a gastroenterologist because I thought he might have H pylori infection (which he didn't). He got operated last year and the pain apparently is gone. He would have never gone to the doctor on time if I didn't suggest him to.

If you've never been to a gastroenterologist, got an endoscopy and the person treating you know is just a general practitioner, consider visiting the specialist. Better safe than sorry.

  2. Try TUMS. TUMS contains calcium carbonate as an active ingredient. It is unlikely that you will get too much calcium. Typically, any excess that the body cannot use is excreted in the urine and stool. Most people absorb calcium with no problems.

  3. Gaviscon! my dad uses it, and i have used it once.. it works perfectly! they have gaviscon chewables, they taste like candy [a bit] and it helps digest the acid [or something] in your stomach that causes the heart burn!

  4. my fiance takes zantac.  He swears by it.

  5. Pepcid is safe to take daily with your doctor's ok. The only thing I've heard of is decreased gastric motility. Without all the stomach acid to break you food down as well, some people get 'plugged up' in the intestines. Sluggish with the bowel movements. Not common though. Prilosec over the counter is also a great one to use.

  6. If Pepcid works for you, it is the best one.  I don't believe there are any side effects from chronic use of a histamine H2-receptor antagonist but you should have yourself checked by a doctor.  You may have GERD (gastroesophgeal reflux disease) or an ulcer.

  7. Pepcid Complete is a new product that combines the antacid, calcium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide with the H2-blocker famotidine. One tablet works to both neutralize and reduce stomach acid

  8. having it day after day is not a good thing..

you should see a doctor...if you want it to not happen day after day...which who wouldn't, right? lol
