What medicine should be given to cats for fleas and ticks?

Does this medicine need to come from the vet or can it be purchased at Walmart? (These are outside cats, but they are very well taken care of. Since they are outside cats, we don't want to use flea collars.)

  1. dont use anything that says put on there neck and butt . i did and it doesnt give warning . cats l**k each other . it killed two of my cats and made on crazy . it was so sad. . I was so mad at the company . dont remeber the name of the stuff. but i would never use anything that you put on there skin again because of this ..

  2. Since your cats are strictly outside cats. I would get either Frontline or Advantage from the vet. They are safe yet more reliable than the ones you buy at Wal-mart or Target or the grocery store. (My vet gets mad at people who use collars)

  3. I only use Frontline plus for cats. It is available at vets or at petco it is a little more expensive but works great and has little chance of side affects.

  4. My mother uses Frontline and my friend uses Advantage, and both are great products.  I've seen them advertised on tv for less than by the vet; 1 800 pet meds I think it is?

  5. Flea collars may be useful but only when used along with other flea killing substances. Also, keeping the area around your place clean can reduce the chances of fleas surviving outside your pet’s fur coat. Keep your carpets and mattresses clean and spray some of the flea powder, as that will definitely kill majority of the fleas. Also, spray in your garden to keep the flea population in check.
