The Earth is made out of the materials that are in the Earth.

The bible says that good took the Earth which was formless and gave it it's shape. This suggests that it was already here.

However, that does not mean that he did not create the Earth ealier. It just means that before he formed it is not relavant to our current existance or how we should live and behave towards one another.

I use the same argument about life on other planets. The bible focuses on our planet though it does mention that God had a hand in parts of the other univers. Considering how far off other planets are, how long it will take to get back and forth, and our stage of development now, it simply is not relavant and therefore not mentioned. If there is life on other planets that is.

In other words there is nothing known to man that has been written that tells us of how the Earth was actually made and if there is life on other planets. Those are actually open to speculation. At least for now.

God made the earth out of nothing, He just spoke, and poof! the earth came out!

the earth was already in existence, it was just without form and void. since it was already here in the first place, the ground was formed, because "terra" in latin (i think) means earth and earth means dirt or ground. the ground was here, but was in need of something new; this is when Creation kicked in. why the statement of the earth already being in existence and not being recorded in the Bible (except for being without form and void) is only God's business. so, all in all, He used the earth to make the earth; He simply refined and improved it into what it is today.
