Question:

What method do the professional Rubik's cubers use to solve the cube?

I use the layer by layer method, and It works well, but it takes a while (my record is 1min 20sec, and I don't see how anyone could put that down to like 7 seconds. So, do the professionals use a different method? What is it? where can I learn it?

(layer by layer method is where I solve for the top, then middle, then bottom or other way around)

  1. I use the www.geocities.com/cynrd/cubeen method

  2. 95-96% of ALL professional speedcubers use the Fridrich method =] It's similar to the basic LBL method, but combines the steps by adding the amount of algorithms required to learn.

Putting it into perspective, LBL takes from 5-15 algs. Full Fridrich requires that you learn 78 last layer algorithms, and 41 F2L algorithms (intuitively, which I believe is the best way).

The current WR holders... they also implement cube logic, and tricks that make them go a little faster! Not to mention they practice like crazy -_-

There're a LOT of places you can learn full Fridrich. But I recommend Shotaro Makisumi's speedcubing site, as well as Dan Harris' =D

Links below, and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me =]

  3. Most of the speedcubers uses the Jessica Fridrich's method or the CFOP (Cross, First 2 Layers, OLL, PLL)

You can learn this method by going to this link:

    1) http://www.ws.binghamton.edu/fridrich/cu...

    2) http://www.cubestation.co.uk/cs2/index.p...

Or you can go on youtube.com and look for videos that will show you how to solve it with the Fridrich's method.

    1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtBLFPwwj...

    That's a good video!

    2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2FhJj6mJ...

    This is good too!

Hope this will help you through speedcubing!

    Good Luck!
