I was just wondering if someone could give me a journeying method that works for them. I have just begun to study shaman ism and I know of one method to journey but sometimes this one does not work out for me. I was wondering if there were more? Or maybe its not the method used, but the practice... I have been doing a lot of visualization exercises and I have attempted to journey many many times ( It has work probably 3 or 4 times out of 10) Please help if you can :)

Thanks :)

  1. I would try astral projection or lucid dreaming.

  2. Journeying can be hard to focus on when you first start out. It was for me. I had a shamanic teacher who now has a book out that outlines the method to journey as well as including a CD that has her ritual intro and drumming to accompany it. We were guided into our journey by focusing on our intent and mental preparation visualizations and the steady drumbeat provided a background. The drumming lasts for 15-20 minutes and then changes rhythm to signal your mind to return. I have found that it can take me several tries to have a very fulfilling journey and that I become better with practice (as with anything). I have the same trouble focusing on meditation. Your journey may not be one continuous story, though, it's best to simply make a mental note of what presents itself, without judgement, and without trying to analyze it while it is happening. When you return from journey, then is the time to take your notepad and jot down what you have seen. Sometimes it makes sense right away, sometimes not, but you will usually find some useful thread to pursue. Good luck!
