  1. We're very eclectic.  I use what works for each kid.   We use Math U See for all the kids. Everything else the kids choose.

They choose the handwriting program that works for them, they choose the social studies and science that they want to study, etc.

I find that they learn and understand better when it's something they are interested in rather then something they are told they have to study.

  2. For us we use some text books and books but not a whole lot!

We like to do hands on activitys like Baking and experiments!

We use lots of flash/drill cards and that and write lots of papers! My mom does alot of quizzing assingments~

  3. We use an online charter school, I have tried doing it myself and with the help of a charter school. Much easier with the help.

My son finished the 8th grade in public school with straight F's and went from that to straight A's and B's being home schooled. Online charter schools are considered the same as public schooling. My son graduated an online charter school and now attends University of Dayton ( a private university ) with scholarships.

Home schooling can work for some. The student needs to be self disciplined enough to do the work and care. Generally less work is involved with an online charter school than in a regular public school. You are also able to work at your own pace. k12 will customize your curriculum and make sure you are where you need to be.

This is the school my other children are now attending,

Depending on where you live they may be a help, if not, there are online charter schools all over.

They will provide you with the computer, printer, supplies and books that you need as well as teachers and academic advisors. This is the same as a public school but ONLINE at home. They will also provide you with teacher to help you by phone and email. They will also help you with any state required testing that needs to be done as well as proficiencies.

If you choose not to use a virtual school , yes you can still purchase k12 products. http://v7.k12.com/independence.html........

  4. My mother used think methods with me.  We turned it into a bedtime game.  That's how I learned touch typing at age 6.

I had some musical inclinations so she was able to teach me basic notes and later in life harmony and the system for counting.

Through her work in computers she taught me at age 8 to read IBM punch cards, now a lost art, but the concepts are rudmentary math logic deal with the number, 10 punch, 11 punc and 12 punch

  5. Mostly I use a blend of Classical Education (as described in "The Well Trained Mind") with Charlotte Mason, also influenced by Ruth Beechick.  I don't tie myself to only one method though, or even just a blend of those three, I am constantly looking for what will work with best with each of children for each subject.

  6. We use traditional text books for math and Language arts.  We use online and video for electives.

We follow his interests for science, history, computer applications, government, etc.

  7. My daughter wasn't home schooled until high school.  We chose the correspondence route and went through the American School.  We were fortunate to have a great tutor in our area to help out, as well.
