Ive been looking and need help deciding which bike to buy, i rode my friends cr 150r and it had lots of power, but am i to heavy for it. I ride on sand duned mostly. I have been riding quads for 7 years, and dirt bikes for 2. Is a say honda crf 250 to big for me? I need a fairly chear bike. And perfer 4 strokes because ive heard 2 strokes are high maintnence. i currently ride a kawasaki 450 quad, and a yamaha ttr 125 dirt bike. Do other dirt bikes match up in power with the cr 150r? or is it a one of a kind? so many questions, hopin for answers!

also considering torque.

  1. I came off a ttr125 at age 16 mainly because I did not like giant, super powerful bikes. I did not want to get a 2 stroke 85 because there was not enough power, and the 2 stroke 125 was as big as the 250, full size bike.  If you get a 4 stroke, it needs to be a racing one like the 150r, otherwise they are outrageously heavy.  The bike I found fit GREAT!  It was a 2 stroke 100 (mine was a rm, but they have kx too) and had just enough power to grow into, but not so much that I couldnt ride it. That could take me up steeper hills than I can do now, and I was soon doing 50 foot doubles. The torque was enough to shoot me faster than any non racing 4 stroke, and at the same time was twice as light.

If you want a bike that has roughly the same power as the 150r, the kx100 and rm100 are the bikes. I have also heard that ktm makes a 105, but KTM parts are hard to come by. As for the price, I got mine for 1500 on ebay, and proved well worth it.

  2. go for the 250f just think in a couple of yrs you will have grown into it but i still think you will have no trouble on it now

  3. You are the right size, height and weight for the crf150r but I would consider a different bike if you intend to use it for riding in dunes as they are a race bike and really need to be maintained to a high level and I cannot see one lasting long in sand dunes.  I would consider a crf250r to perhaps be a wiser option as you are going to grow hopefully at 14 and will soon find the 150 a bit small.  The 250 will go through the sand better.  My sons have both of these bikes and one of the tracks they race at is very much like sand dunes.  My youngest is an A grade rider and even he finds the 150 doesnt cut through the sand as easily as his 250.

  4. the 150R is set up from the factory for a 160 pound rider.....quite stiff for my 95 pound daughter. but at 132 plus gear you should be fine on that bike.

  5. if ride 450 get a 450 and so you know 2 strokes are easy cheep maint. and they are not hard to keep up. grew into it .

  6. Depending on your skill. I would say 150 for sure though

  7. 132 doesn't sound too heavy for a CRF150R to me, but it's your money. An 85 comes close in power but is not quite on par with the 150R. The KTM105SX should be more powerful , but with much less torque. You should just go by your Honda dealer and try sitting on a 250F. I really think it will be too tall for you though. If you have $8000 to spend here is the perfect bike. An 85 sized frame with a CRF250R engine.
