  1. In our district, the curriculum is chosen, first by a committee and then voted on by all of the teachers. If a teacher had a certain problem with a particular text, they should make their complaints known and then vote accordingly.

  2. Stereotypes in textbooks were common many years ago. Fortunately they are not as much now.

It would be a good opportunity to discuss two things: stereotypes in general, how they affect our thinking and why would a stereotype be in this particular text?

Next would be a discussion on the "truth" in textbooks and how to be a critical reader.  You can't change every book in the universe but you can train your students to recognize stereotypes and the damage they can do to an educational concept.

Stereotypes are still with us - It's up to educators to make sure that our students know what they are and the damage they can do to your thinking.

  3. Explain them, identify them as stereo types and state your opinion.
