Question:

What might be a good job for my mom?

She is 52 years old with a Masters in social work. She has worked briefly as a teacher and has worked a long time as a psychotherapist, but stopped working as the government began more and more to cut funding.

She is currently a writer working on getting a book published but is not writing anything else at the moment.

She was a classics major in college and enjoys books, literature, and that kind of thing.

She likes to garden. She does crosswords. She can cook well but I don't think she'd want to.

I don't think she'd enjoy any sort of public relations and she doesn't want to teach again.

Salary does not matter as long as it's there.

What kind of job could she get that she would enjoy, that might be therapeutic for her?

  1. Freelance writers, by definition, do not get a "salary". If they get paid at all, they get paid for each piece they get published, and nothing in between.

Maybe, just maybe, she could get a job as an editor, but she'd have to compete with a lot of other would-be editors.

She could offer book or movie reviews to newspapers and magazines.

I wish her all the best of luck.

  2. She can work for a newspaper and be in charge of designing and putting out the daily crossword puzzle.
