Question:

What might your Italian grandmother have served you for afternoon tea?

I'm writing a story that includes a chapter about some boys spending an afternoon with their Italian grandmother. For afternoon tea, I'd like her to serve them some homemade treats, but I don't remember ever having an Italian homemade afternoon tea. So I wondered, what kind of cakes and things did your Italian family serve to you?

  1. Well, Italians usually don't have afternoon tea however, they would have an espresso in the afternoon. So, with their espresso, they would probably have some sort of Italian cookies. These cookies may include pizelle (waffle cookies), biscotti, amaretto cookies, or any sort of cookies that come directly from a specific region of Italy. Also, good luck with your story! It would be interesting to read.

  2. We are italian. Some deserts we would have w/ coffee tea or after dinner include, Amaretti Cookies, Cannoli, Biscotti, Pannetone cake and Gelato.

    Hope this helps

  4. depends on the time of years. if its around winter christmas time she would serve hot milk or "latter caldo" and a sponge cake covered in sugar called "panettone". if its around easter it would be a cake in the shape of a dove (as in the bird) calles "colombo". this is still a sponge cake that is filled with raisins and other dried fruit. if is in the summer time my nan gives us all ice cream cake "semi-freddo" or something along the lines of fresh fruit cake or "torta alla frutta"

    good luck
