right now i got college baseball tryouts coming up late september. I'm going through my normal work outs but putting in extra time in the cages. my normal work outs are playing flag football, basketball at the gym, baseball on weekends and riding my bike about 50-75 miles a week. I'm going to go into the tryouts knowing that I will try my hardest and just try to put on a show and treat it just like i'm doing any other physical activity and making the team would only be a big plus.

making this team is really out there to begin with, UC Irvine.

  1. UC Irvine is one of the better baseball schools in the nation. I believe they were in the Super Regional last year. Realistically, you probably need to be a "preferred walk-on" to even have a chance at making the team. I don't know if you have talked to the coaching staff already and if they asked you to come to the school, without the promise of a scholarship, and try out for the team.

If you are not a preferred walk on, and you really want to be a part of the team, I would suggest trying to meet with one of the coaches prior to the tryouts. Some teams keep a player or two in walk-ons to be a manager. This might give you a chance at working out with the team and then maybe impressing the coaching staff enough where they might put you on the active roster next year. Also, a coach will keep a walk on who might have a very good academic record (GPA, etc.) because that will boost the teams GPA throughout the year. That is important for the coaching staff and school (Team GPA). I don't know if you could fit into that. If you do, it would be helpful for the coaches to be aware of this.

Finally, I am just trying to help you realize what is ahead. If you are a preferred walk on already, go into the tryout making sure you run your best 60 time (coaches love speed so work on sprinting prior to tryouts) and just bust it everywhere you go on the field. If not, meet with the coaches. Let them know who you are. Go into it with nothing to lose and look for any way to be apart of the team if you want it bad enough.

  2. I'm, only 14 but i say its gonna be hard but dude you gotta get out there and rlax try to focus but have fun thats always when i play my best.

  3. It depends on how much to want to play. Personally, I will treat it as an examine and try to be really focused and prepared. For me, the best thing to overcome nerves is preparation.

Do whatever make yourself comfortable but take it very seriously. Good luck with everything.

  4. don't go in there cocky but confident.  when your taking breaks think about what you can do. and also look at the other people and see what there doing.  don't do anything over the top fancy because you s***w up fanciness and that's bad.  i should know. now try something fancy but make sure if you do it you can always do it.
