But in general decaying organic matter will return to the soil all of the essential mineral elements that a plant needs for its growth. These are the necessary elements needed by plants that come from the soil. They are N, P, K, the primary elements, Ca, Mg, and S, the secondary elements, and Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, B, Mb, and Cl, the micro elements. There are also the elements C, H, and O supplied by air and water that are not minerals. All plants require these to grow, so when the plants break down by decaying, these mineral elements are returned to the soil.
