What mistake am I making in knitting the feather n fan pattern? Every time I make it, it inc. on the Y/O row.?

what am I doing wtrong? I work it just like it says and it inc. alot. Am I not supposed to work the Yarn overs?

and am i supposed to dec. on the dec. sts on the next row as well?? I am making a skirt and it calls for the feather n fan pattern, from Knitting daily. here is the skirt, and since I dont have the pattern, i have to go by the picture. help!!!

how do I fix the increases and I do the knit 2 tog. 3 times, just as the pattern says.

I knit 1,yo 6 times just like the pattern says to do., k4 at each end for border row,

then knit next row,

purl next row, with knit 4 sts each end for border.

what did I do wrong???

on row 3 - you have to work 2 lots of the k2tog (decreasing 6sts altogether) to counteract the 6 yo (increasing 6 sts)

from what you say about your stitches increasing on your rows then I would have to say that you have one lot too many of the yo sections by having cast on too many stitches as required for the repeats of the feather and fan pattern.

I would need to see the actual pattern that you are working from and also need details of what you have actually done to figure out what is going wrong for you.

Your pattern is correct.  There is no way to tell what might be going wrong without seeing your skirt.  Most experienced knitters are happy to help, so you might try to find a group of knitters in your city.  Many libraries and community centers host knitting groups and are usually free and open to all.  Yarn shops are a good source.  Many of the large retail hobby stores have classes where you may find help, too.
