Question:

What mode do you experts use? DSLR?

i assume they dont use basic modes correct? is manual mode the best for everything? to customize every detail of the shot or do you sometimes use shutter mode , aperture mode?

  1. It depends ... I use manual when using the external flash.  I use aperture priority mode when shooting everything else.  I use the aperture mode because with it I can shoot at the highest possible shutter speed by keeping the lens wide open.  I can also better control the depth of field in the mode as well.

    The other part of this is choosing the metering mode.  I honed my exposure skills using a center weighted meter, shooting transparencies, so I am more comfortable using it still.  When I shoot using the 12-24 mm lens I find the spot meter works best for me.  But that is me.  Most of my younger fellow shooters tend to use the new matrix or 3D matrix metering and are able to nail their exposures.


  2. I shoot in Aperture Preferred Mode 99% of the time. Occasionally I'll go retro and shoot in 100% Manual.
