  1. Sorry, I've never traveled but, it sounds like you might already have some good adv ise.  I would have suggested checking with your bank or travel agent.

  2. Take your American dollars and exchange at airport into their currency to be ready to pay for transportation to hotel either by taxi, or rental car. Pay hotel with U.S.$, and everything else with their currency.

ONLY exchange at aiport booth or bank.

  3. YO YO LOHO !   CHANGE  YOUR DOLLARS  IN FOR PESOS  !        CHECK OUT THE RESOLVED QUESTIONS  LIST  AND YOULL GET ALOT MORE  DETAIL ABOUT THIS  .    BUT,  IT   CANT BE STRESSED ENOUGH , WHEN  YOU CAN  OR WHEN  IN  DOUBT , PAY  WITH  A  PESO  !  INSPITE  OF  THE DYING DOLLAR, YOU STILL GET ALOT MORE FOR IT THERE THAN HERE.  A  GOOD RULE OF  THUMB  IS  ABOUT  33 TO 34  PESOS EQUALS ONE BENJAMIN  .  I  SUGGEST  EXCHANGING  YOUR CURRENCY  AT  THE DOMINICAN  AIRPORTS UPON ARRIVAL  .  IF  MEMORY  SERVES  ME,  UNLIKE  U.S  EXCHANGE  COUNTERS, YOU DONT  HAVE TO PAY  ANY  COMMISSIONS  .   YOUR  ALWAYS  SAFE  EXCHANGING  MONEY  AT  ANY  DOMINICAN BANK  IF YOU CHOOSE  TO .(  NO  FEES  FOR  BANKS  ).  NEVER  EXCHANGE  MONEY  ON  THE  STREET !  LASTLY, IN LIGHT  OF  THE RECENT  CHANGE  SHORTAGE  IN  SOME    PARTS  OF THE  COUNTRY ( YEAH, RIGHT ),   ASK  FOR SMALL  BILLS  ,( MEANING AS MANY  100 PESO BILLS  YOU CAN GET BUT  NO HIGHER THAN A 500 PESO BILL IF POSSIBLE.)  IF  NOT,   I  HOPE  YOU  DONT  MIND  CHEWING  YOUR  CHANGE  BECAUSE    DONT    BE    SURPRISED  WHEN  YOU  BUY  A PACK OF GUM  AND  YOUR  CHANGE  IS  ALSO  A PACK  OF  GUM  OR A  HALLS  BREATH  MINT .

  4. when i went we broght american money, and we brought little gift bags for the maids at our resorts they were just filled with sample perfumes and stuff like that. they loved it and stocked our fridge everyday wiht pop gave us extra things like that!

  5. Just your airport fees (10+20us) and your credit cards (ATM) and take bit by bit what you need to pay your excursions and buy your souvenirs.

    Happy to help you

  6. Well, they'll take both but it is preferably for you to change it in to pesos, you can do that at the airport or at any bank, most of the times the airport has a different dollar value than the banks, so if you could go to a bank it'll be better for you, you might end up getting more pesos, take a light sweater, because sometimes it gets chilli at night (not all the time). Everybody is very friendly and I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun!!! =)
