  1. The monument is a tall pillar with a sculpture of Lord Horatio Nelson atop.  Lord Nelson was a well regarded Naval Admiral who commanded the British forces against the forces of Napoleon.  Notably he won the Battle of the Nile and the Battle of Trafalgar.  He was mortally wounded in the second of these two battles.

The pillar is surrounded by four large lions.  Each of the lions were forged from metal which was gained from melting down cannons from Lord Nelson's flagship, the HMS Victory.

The monument is called Nelson's Column.

  2. Nelson's Colums!!!.
