What more do the States want?

They are already leading the total medal count with 27. Do they just not realize that they can't win everything? I am Canadian and my country has zero medals thus far but I haven't heard nearly as much whining from us. Is it just me or has Yahoo Answers become totally barbaric?

I'd like to hear your opinion if it is well thought out.

  1. the goal is to win...

  2. The "American Dream" has always been that one can do anything one wants, and that through hard work and perseverance one can excel. Is this realistic for everyone? Perhaps, no, but it does provide a mindset and a goal. Americans tend to be far more competitive than many other nations, and this helps provide personal incentive that makes the US a political, economic, military, and athletic leader.

Canada on the other hand is increasingly socialist. They seek whatever is in the best interests of the many (such as there health care system which taxes them into the ground). It is hard to be a part of such a system and seek to excel, and it is not encouraged. The exception to this would be hockey, and maybe curling.

  3. I prefer Canadians all the way. Why ? They are not spoiled and as proud as yankees.

  4. The United States is of course a superpower hence it won't let any other country beat them. I'm not saying that politics is in the games nor am i saying that the athletes are being pressured by the government its just that the US is a very competitive nation. Like say, China is the hosting nation and in History there has been some conflict between China and US. So if one beats the other, they get to be extremely proud about it. Like during the sixties, the athletes would go away but the Americans stayed at home watching TV or listening to the radio. If it was announced that we beat Russia, it was HEAVENLY news because it was during the cold war and if no nuclear bombs were going into the air, the number of medals would show the winner....I'm guessing it's kinda(not exactly) but you know, kinda the same now...

Although i have to say that the athletes are never pressured, but the nation feels an overwhelming pride when they beat their competitors cos the US is a country of competitive consumers.lol

  5. What do you have against us, anyway? We are winning fair and square.

  6. I don't think they want anything more.

They seem to think they are the best and can't imagine that anything could be better.

The problem for that opinion is that they don't actually leave the USA before they decide they are the best. Which only hurts them, because they don't realise that they are just hillbillies who are flat out understanding that the world is round, let alone the diversity of great cultures in the world.

But it'll be ok once we are all like them......

  7. to me people on yahoo answers that live in the U.S. only like to brag about there country and not take in to consideration on well the other teams try to win and who noble teams are to be so respectful to each other that takes a lot of courage and great honor to hold your head up high after a defeat. The games are more than medals it is about all countries coming together and forgetting political disputes and just honoring a great tradition of freedom and representing a country. People on here are immature and don't think about the other countries and how we should respect them and honor them!

  8. You do realize that this Topic is International to all English speaking countries. I've seen Posters from US, Canada, NZ, Australia, and UK

  9. its just an event..USA not the only one bragging! look at the French swimmer for example lol..

  10. I think that the types of people who care enough to whine are the types of people that you shouldn't even worry about listening to.

  11. Because we're competitive!! TEAM USA!!!

  12. Just give me your soul and I will call it a day.

  13. we're americans, we want it all. being canadian, you're used to losing, you've accepted it as a way of life

  14. we arent competing with canada we are competing with china

  15. We have twice as many athletes as you do so it would make sense that we have more. We just want to be the best we can be. Plus just because we haave the most doesn't always make us the best. We also have the most bronze. We also dominate the major sports basketball track swimming (sort of) etc. Why do people have to hate? just be happy  and enjoy the games.

  16. For years now, American coverage (NBC) of the olympics focuses only on the American athletes that have a shot at winning a medal. I believe that gave American audiences certain expectations, and dictates the WAY they watch the games. I suppose it's the same as news coverage in the US - mostly domestic news, very little international news unless the US is involved.

Most people in the rest of the world just want to see the best athletes compete, no matter which countries they are from.

  17. We want a fair and honest competition.  Everyone agrees to play by the rules; so everyone should play by the rules.  Falsifying documents to put gymnasts who are smaller, lighter, more agile, and have less fear because their bodies and psyches are not fully developed violated the rules.    It isn't that the US has won more metals and we want more. We want an even playing field.  China's team could have won with athletes over 16, but the government chose to break the rules and falsify documents.

I don't think the whining has to do with that we lost the Gold in WOMEN'S gymnastics (which the interview with the team show how professional these females are and they have a lot of dignity and sportsmanship), but that China did not follow the rules and has a history of not doing so.  What the Chinese government has been accused of doing - even by their own people - is pretty serious.   Yet, there is nothing that can be done about it.
