What mortar do i buy to repoint my chimney?

Can i get the mortar at hoem depot or lowes. If so exactly wht kind do i need. I am just going to chip off teh old mortar on the bricks and reuse them. I only need to come down maybe 3 rows. But i am not sure which mortar to use. thanks

it doesnt matter what kind you get. but make sure it says on the bag mortar for pionting, brick laying ect.

buy a bag of pre-mix type S mortar...get 2 bags and take one back if you dont use it...i just laid 2 courses on a chimney top this afternoon and had a little mortar left over...
