What motivates people to have children?

And why does society place so much emphasis on having them? In Australia the govt even pays you to have them!

Why are people interested in having little replicas of themselves running around?

why does australian governament want more children for the nation? just few hundred miles away from their shores, millions and millions of indonasian kids live in abject poverty. it's overpopulated and a developing country with majority of their population live on lese than $2 a day.  why can't Australian government allow more immigrants to their country from devleloping nations? i think by allowing people from developing countries to immigrate to developed countries, goverments of developed countries can solve the problem of population implosion that's occuring in their countries.
