What motorcycle should I choose?

Question

Here are the facts:

I am 6"2 and weigh in around A pretty lean 300lbs

The riding I intend to do will be around town and possibly to work which is about a 20 mile hwy ride.

I have been looking at BMW but I think maybe I would be too big for those cycles. If you have any suggestions of bikes for me to look at that would be great. I am at a crossroads of both a cruiser and a sporty kind of bike my options are open. Thanks for your time.

If you're looking for sport and cruising, then you need a sport touring bike. For  instance the Triumph Tiger, Buell Ulysses XB12XT, and BMW makes nice touring bikes. The bikes I recommended are tall standard bikes. Meaning they situp-right, not leaned over.

Ditto on the Road King. Your 20 mile commute is longer than mine, but I'm 6'2" and 275 lbs., and the Road King is an ideal size for me. Harley busters are all jealous.

it's all about Ducati mate if you can afford it. If not get a yamaha cbr 600

I'm 6'-0" but about 180# and a BMW fits me fine.

(At 300# you might want to go with higher rate

springs & shocks on anything you get.)

I recommend Kawasakis 2050cc Vulcan (twin). I am serious. It is a very large bike and you will fit fine on it. It didn't sell well because it was just to big. You may find one new or like new. Helmet and gloves!

Clearly you need to look at the larger bikes, like in the 1100 cc range...and I'd go for a cruizer because a)I've got one and b) you're looking at riding most every day to work and probably errands, and you'll appreciate the big bags you can get and even tow a trailer if you need to go camping or something.

I have a 1985 K100RT and it would be great for taller riders like you. I am not sure about the newer bikes but this one is nice. It has a fairing on it so I can ride it early and late in the season.

A Japanese cruiser bike would be nice for someone your size.  The bike would be comfortable and saddle bags would be convenient for your belongings.  

Also where I'm at, most steal sport bikes cause it's easier to sell the fairings and parts than it would from a cruiser.

My friend who is 6'3" and 200 lbs is comfortable on a bmw and a triumph.  

You just have to pick a style that you like and something that makes you want to ride.

Whatever you do don't buy a Harley! Too expensive..bad ride..and too expensive to maintain..I got rid of mine and bought a Honda Gold Wing. Much better!

It would depend on your riding experience.  If you have none, buy a hyosung or whatever at a cheap price (but w/a guarantee) or a used honda/suzuki beater.  get used to driving and whatnot.  once you are confident and used to riding your commute, you will get a better feel for what kind of bike you really need.

The pinnacle of bikes, IMHO, is the Harley and/or the American V-twin equivelent (Victory, Indian...Boss Hoss).  They offer a full range of bikes - even the Buell to the VRod to the Electra Glide.  Get a bike to learn on 1st, then pick the bike that you need for your requirements.
