  1. As a Don r once in the army he would have ridden one of two an Enfeild 500cc side valve with sprung front forks and handchangs gears  or a matchless 350cc with telescopic front forks and foot change burma gearbox . There were some BSA s 500cc but were mostly used by the war office in London

  2. Probably a BSA or Matchless

  3. It could have been anything from a "Velocete","Royal Enfield", "Rudge", "Villiers", "Norton", "BSA" or Triumph" depending on what was available....

  4. as a dispatcher he would have ridden probably an office chair with a bunch of radios around  his desk. otherwise it would have just been the AMC motorcycle

  5. BSA M20 or Matchless G3L

  6. As a solo rider, the usual machine was either an AJS  or a Matchless 350 cc Single cylider.  Both makes came from the same factory and were identical.

The BSA M20 500 cc single was used with sidecar attached,

    There you go..........

  8. Since we're talking about the War Department one might assume it was a Royal Enfield (also the name of a much loved rifle) or even BSA (Birmingham Small Arms), but I suspect it would have been a Norton. They were all painted a S****y green, so who knows?
