  1. You'll have to drive about 1 hour west to Jasper.

  2. LOL! Edmonton is prarie, Id go to Calgray/Kananaskis.

  3. There are no mountains in Edmonton but there is a beautiful river valley with miles and miles of hiking/biking trails. Also, east of Edmonton is Elk Island Park. Again, no mountains, but there is a lake you can walk around and a Bison Preserve. Jasper is more like 2.5 hours from Edmonton, but as you get closer to it, you get to towns like Edson and Hinton which are more mountainous.

You could just stick around in the city and enjoy the summer festivals, walk the river valley, eat some great international cuisine, and stay up really late to watch the sunset. Maybe even catch some northern lights.

  4. Jasper in 1 hour?  2.5 hours!!  man you guys dont worry about photo-radar in Alberta!!   I do.. everytime I get home to Vancouver a week later I get the nice little ticket notice in the mail.

It usually takes me about 3-4 hours to go from Edmonton to Jasper.

BUT.. If you want mountains.. thats the best place nearest to Edmonton to go.  If your really adventerous  take the Columbia Icefield Highway from Jasper to Banff.

  5. Drive to Jasper for mountains.  Other than that, climbing up stairs in the river valley is probably as close as you get!
