Child's Play (1988)

IMDb synopsis:

When serial killer Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) is mortally wounded in a police shootout in a toy store, he uses a voodoo spell to transfer his soul into a "Good Guys" doll. Andy (Alex Vincent) receives the doll as a birthday gift, and the self-named Chucky resumes Charles' killing spree. However, the criminal discovers that he could be trapped in the body of a doll forever. His only escape is to transfer into the first human he revealed his true identity to~which places Andy in mortal danger.

It's the first film in the series.
