Question:

What movies are there about adoption?

I am just interested in what movies are out there that have links to adoption, etiher negatively or postively.

I am asking because I just watched 10 Commandments (never looked at it through adoption eyes before) and Gone Baby Gone, which while not about adoption made me think of my foster children who have gone back to bad situations.

Anyway thought it might be fun to generate a list, be as creative as you want. (um, well we all know juno was about adoption, let's think outside the box)

Thanks!

  1. Meet the Robinsons (Disney Cartoon) - although I have heard mixed reviews about how it portrays adoption so I have not watched it yet.

I did a quick google search and found some of the following:

    Snow Dogs

    Elf

    The Little Drummer Boy

    Nester the Long Eared Donkey

    I am Sam

    A Family Thing

    A Long Way Home

    A Memory in My Heart

    Angie

    Big Daddy

    Border Line

    Deep In My Heart

    Fortress

    Gloria

    The Handmaid's Tale

The Hand that Rocks the Cradle

    Losing Isaiah

    Mommie Dearest

    The Other Mother

    Rite of Passage

    Secrets and Lies

    Storm of the Century

    Sweet Evil

    Tell Me My Name

    Three Secrets

    The Truman Show

  2. August Rush

    Martian Child

    Juno

    Mommie Dearest

    The Bad Seed

    Snow Dogs (disney)

  3. Anne of GreenGables.. it's older but it's a great series.. :)

  4. Secrets and Lies and Breakfast on Pluto are my favorites.  Neither were produced or filmed in the US (probably why I liked them!).

Both are about the quest of adopted adults to connect to their families of origin.

  5. Losing Isaiah

  6. Martian Child.... reallly really good for anyone who has Fostered or Adopted an older child...

  7. A historical one:

    Stolen Babies about Georgia Tann.

    http://movies.aol.com/movie/stolen-babie...

Inspired by a 60 Minutes story, the made-for-cable Stolen Babies is the fact-based story of supposed "angel of mercy" Georgia Tann. Throughout the 1940s, Ms. Tann oversaw the adoption of children from her Tennessee orphanage. Since she was considered a pillar of the community, few questioned Tann's methods. Only when dedicated social worker Anne Beals began chipping away at Tann's respectable veneer did a terrible truth come to light. The principal selling angle of Stolen Babies was the way-against-type casting of Mary Tyler Moore as purse-lipped, bespectacled, quietly sinister Georgia Tann (not surprisingly, Moore won an Emmy for this chilling performance). Lea Thompson was more traditionally cast as the whistle-blowing Anne Beals. Stolen Babies first aired March 25, 1993, over the Lifetime Cable service. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

  8. Juno

Funny, touching movie about a young girl who becomes pregnant and decides to give the baby to a married couple

It's in the theatres right now.

  9. I watched Meet the Robinsons with my daughter whom we adopted as a teenager and it really struck a chord for both of us.

Others we enjoy are Anne of Green Gables and my little daughter loves Annie.

  10. I can't think of any movies off hand other than Losing Isaiah which was a life time movie.  But Mrs Spider Sunny Patch has an adoption theme to it as she took in other bugs.  And if you think about it Jesus was adopted Joesph

  11. Martian Child was sooooo good!!!

  12. juno, a teenage girl ha a baby and puts it up for adoption

  13. Secrets & Lies, Mommie Dearest, The Magdalene Sisters

ETA: Just thought of another funny one--Flirting with Disaster!  Here Mary Tyler Moore plays the amother.

  14. Problem Child

  15. Mom at 15

  16. Angles in the Outfield, Stuart Little

  17. The movie "White Oleander" deals with the LA foster care system.  I know it is not adoption, but I thought I would offer it up because it is related.

  18. Twins!!! Classic!
