  1. arm=paddling

    legs=getting up, swimming

    torso=getting up and just being a hot surfer!!

  2. HAND MUSCLE

  3. There are many muscles used in surfing, but the most noticeable are trapezius, deltoids, latissimus dorsi and biceps. You use other muscles, but they are supplementing, and complementing the major muscles.

  4. ok look these other people are just thinking, I ACTUALLY SURF AND KNOW.

    shoulders/triceps are used for paddling, these get the most workout when you surf

    your abs/quads/and hamstrings get you standing up.

    then you use your obliques and lower back to turn.

  5. shoulders, back (between your shoulder blades), and triceps all burn when paddling.  You need a solid core for power surfing but don't really need strength anywhere else when you are first starting out.  People will say you need all these 'strong' muscles to surf - you don't.  I see overweight fat people in the lineup every morning.  You just need a little practice and balance.  But if I had to pick - I'd say your upper body strength will benefit you the most at the start.

  6. I surf and I train people

    shoulders, back (lats) and upper arms for paddling

    core and abs for stability on board

    legs for fast takeoff

    do some hard basic exercises - chins, squats building up some strength and lots of stability stuff on the swiss ball and a good proportion of strong trunk rotation work

    practice some explosive stuff like jumping as well and you will notice the improvement on the board - but first and foremost surf - surf and surf
