  1. most of your back, shoulder, abs, & to a lesser extent, arm muscles. kayaking is a great way to get in shape & is very peaceful (on a lake or ocean anyway)

  5. Primarily, torso muscles. They transmit power to the paddle. Leg muscles transmit action to the kayak. The arm muscles simply hold the paddle firmly. Wrist action is necessary if the paddle has to be rotated to put the blade perpindicular to the water.
