Question:

What muscles help you jump and how do you build these muscles?

I need help jumping for the high jump and for the long jump and in order to improve I need to work on my jumping. can anyone help?

  1. A lot of protein to rebuild the torn muscles your use when jumping and you can improve by running uphill or mountain climbing stuff like that


  2. Quads, and calfs.

    Squats and Toe ups.

  4. Quadracep femoris mucles include the vastus medials, vastus lateralis, rectus femoris, and vastus intermedious. You also use the grastrocnemius (calf muscle) and bicep femoris to name a few of them. I would agree with mike about the plyo program. Also if you are serious about the high jump keep in mind it is 80% form. Do ALOT of stretching and I would recommend taking up yoga if you want to get really good.

  5. One answer. Plyometrics.

    Plyometric training is by far the most effective for high jump, long jump, triple jump etc.. It can even vastly improve your sprinting. Combined with your usual running work out / strength training, plyometrics can make you a big threat in long and high jump.  

    Basically it is just simple workouts, normally weight-free, that focus on explosive power.

    ^ Scroll to the bottom of that page and there are a few animations of some effective techniques.  Bounding is fantastic. Basically anything that mimics the jumping you do in your competition is what you would want to work on.

    Ask your coach or trainer for some specific workouts, I triple jumped all through high school, and being 5' 8" and stocky with hobbit legs, being able to make it to states jumping almost 50 ft was incredible. And I would attribute it to always getting my plyometrics in after every track practice or workout session.

  6. Either start climbing or get some type of exorcise machine that will simulate climbing.

    Biking uphill may also get the job done to an extant, and do not cheat and use high gears either, LOL

    Make them legs work.
